Campaigning season will soon hit Aurora, but it won’t be politicians trying to win your vote.
The Aurora Chamber of Commerce has announced the finalists for its 2024 annual business excellence awards, as well as the debut of the people’s choice award.
"We try to highlight different categories to highlight different business in various industries throughout Aurora, so it's not always the same group of people, or it's not just big business, small business. We try to be a bit more hyper-focused so different businesses get recognition," said Alison Mumford, director of operations at the chamber.
"This year the people's choice award was along a similar thought line, having one kind of open category that allows for multiple finalists, so that there are many people who can get recognition, and drive awareness to all the different great businesses and industries that are available in Aurora."
The categories are community participation, non-profit, skilled trades, personal services provider, seniors support services, and hospitality/food services, as well as the people's choice awards.
Most award winners are selected by the chamber's judges, however, the long list of finalists for the people's choice award will instead, starting in September, have one month to secure votes from the public.
The finalists for people’s choice and the six other categories were announced at an event held at the Aurora Legion on Wednesday, June 19.
