The Town of Aurora is hosting an official opening for John Abel Park, named after the late deputy mayor on Monday, Oct. 7.

The park, located on Hartwell Way, will feature wood carvings, as well a connection into the David Tomlinson Nature Reserve, an outdoor amphitheatre, a nature-based playground, and a community garden and healing garden (although some elements will not be in place until 2025.)

The park was named after former councillor John Abel, who served as a councillor and deputy mayor of Aurora from 2010 until 2018, and “had a strong passion for arts, culture and nature,” according to a Town of Aurora news release.

The community is welcome at the official opening on Monday, Oct. 7 at 5:30 p.m. at the new John Abel Park, located at 310 Hartwell Way.
