Fire crews rushed to the scene of an Aurora house fire Wednesday afternoon, which started after the property was struck by lightning.

Central York Fire Services got the call about a house on fire on Northern Dancer Lane at 3:52 p.m.

Crews who first arrived on the scene reported a fire had broken out on the roof of the house. Teams worked quickly to extinguish the blaze.

“Electrical sockets were found blown out in the walls throughout the house. A thorough search for hidden fires within the walls and attic was conducted,” Central York Fire Services reported in a statement.

The cause of the incident was “a lightning strike travelling through the electrical system,” the statement adds.

There were no injuries stemming from the lightning strike, nor the fire.

Four trucks and 16 firefighters were sent to the scene, as well as two chief officers.

Also helping respond to the incident were York Regional Police, York Paramedic Services, Alectra and Enbridge Gas.
