Neighbourhood Network’s elves are ready to spread joy through their annual holiday gift drive for families in need in northern York Region.

You can be a part of this initiative by sponsoring a family or making a general donation.

The program supported more than 440 individuals in their partnered municipalities of Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, King Township, Newmarket, and Whitchurch-Stouffville last year, with an increased need for support anticipated this year.

“We’re always moved by the community’s willingness to give,” Erin Cerenzia, manager of community relations, said in a news release. “This program is designed to make it easy for everyone to join in — whether you’re choosing items from our virtual lists or personally shopping for a family, each gift truly lights up someone’s holiday.”

All sponsored families reside in Neighbourhood Network’s catchment area and are vetted through their partnered charitable organizations.

Urgently needed donations include gift cards, new and unwrapped toys, winter wear, toiletries, and diapers, which are crucial for fulfilling the wishes of their 400-plus charitable partners.

“For some families, even basic essentials are out of reach. Each donation, no matter the size, brings real hope and comfort to neighbours who are facing challenging times this season," Cerenzia said.

Donations can be dropped off at two locations until Dec. 11:

  • Neighbourhood Network’s office: 337 Magna Dr., Aurora (any day of the week, 24/7)
  • Newmarket Chamber of Commerce: 470 Davis Dr., Newmarket (Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
