Sport Aurora’s efforts to get local kids active were boosted with a donation from the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Aurora.

The organization's All Kids Can Play program, which has been running for more than 16 years, provides support to youth who face financial barriers in participating in sports.

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge #148 made a $500 donation to the program, with the official cheque handover held Friday, June 21.

“Our Lodge unanimously voted to support this important local program,” vice grand Anthony Garramone said in news release. “We have been helping organizations in our community for the past 150 years, and are happy to support families in need to ensure their children can participate in healthy sport and physical activity.”

Over the past nine years, local donors have provided more than $70,000 to help nearly 350 kids "get in the game" in Aurora.

Sport Aurora president Ron Weese said he was thankful for the ongoing support from the Odd Fellows.

“This is the second such donation we have received from this local service group and they have demonstrated their continued commitment to our quality sport community with this sponsorship,” Weese said in a statement.

“It will help us to continue to get kids off the sidelines and into healthy sport participation.”
