Canada Day, farmers' markets, and live music performances are coming up this weekend

There are a number of Canada Day events happening throughout the long weekend, plus other things going on throughout the region.

Saturday, June 29

Dave’s “Great Canadian” Vinyl Party: Aurora resident Dave Heard will DJ a session of free music in Aurora Town Park, delving into his extensive vinyl collection, with a focus on Canadian artists. Music playing from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Aurora Town Park.

Aurora Farmers' Market & Artisan Fair: Shop local, shop fresh at the Aurora Farmers' Market Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. until Oct. 26 at 49 Wells St. (northeast corner of Town Park) featuring artisans, farmers, food vendors and community groups.

Newmarket Farmers' Market: Every Saturday morning, from May through October, Riverwalk Commons in historic downtown Newmarket is transformed into a vibrant market space where our community gathers to support local food. Market open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Riverwalk Commons, located at Doug Duncan Drive (corner of Doug Duncan and Timothy Street).

Blood donation clinic, York Regional Administrative Centre: Same-day and open appointment spots are often available at donation events. Book now on blood.ca, use the GiveBlood app or call 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283). On from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., located at 17250 Yonge St.

Sunday, June 30

Aurora's Dance in the Park: Put on your dancing shoes and kick off the Canada Day festivities with the Dance in the Park with fantastic live bands, great food and the Rotary Beer Garden from 7 to 11 p.m. at Town Park, 49 Wells St. Performance schedule.

Curator’s Walk and Talk: Curator Charlotte Hale hosts a Walk and Talk tour of the Georgina Centre for Arts and Culture’s collections, with a focus on pieces from local and regional artists that have been collected for the Juried Art Show. On from noon to 2 p.m. at Georgina Centre for Arts and Culture, 149 High St., Sutton.

Monday, July 1

Aurora's Canada Day Parade: Canada Day celebrations begin with the annual parade with marching bands, including the Governor General’s Horse Guards, cultural performers and more on Yonge Street, starting at 10 am. and travelling north from Edward Street to Aurora Heights Drive.

Town of Aurora Canada Day Festivities: Celebrate Canada’s birthday with festivities that include live multicultural showcase and children’s activities, food vendors, mini-golf, inflatables and more from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Lambert Willson Park and Aurora Family Leisure Complex. Enjoy back-to-back live bands, capping off with fireworks at 10 p.m. More details about the performance schedule and activities here.

Newmarket's Canada Day concert and fireworks: The Newmarket Citizens Band plays from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., followed by a concert from 9 to 10 p.m. featuring the band Switchbeat, all at George Richardson Park, Bayview Parkway. Fireworks will take place from approximately 10:10 to 10:30 p.m.

Wednesday, July 3:

Leah Daniels, Concerts in the Park: Kick off the summer concert series with Canadian country sweetheart Leah Daniels. Fresh from CMT Fest and Boots and Hearts, Leah brings her country energy and heartfelt lyrics to Town Park. Performance runs from 7 to 9 p.m. at Aurora Town Park.

Thursday, July 4:

Martha's Table: Martha’s Table is a drop-in community luncheon staffed by 30 volunteers that takes place each Thursday at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. We offer a hot meal and fellowship. Open from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 32 Mosley St.

Friday, July 5:

Comedy Night at Piazza Italian Eatery Mercato: Beer, wine and snacks will be available for purchase at Piazza. Headliner: Daniel Shaw. MC: Jesse Ralph and special guests. More information can be found on Eventbrite. Performance from 8 to 10:30 p.m. at 15198 Yonge St.

Satruday, July 6:

Aurora ComiCon: ComiCon comes to your town. Vendors selling comic books/toys/video games/sports cards/jewelry and pretty much anything geeky cool. More information. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Aurora Royal Canadian Legion Branch 385, 105 Industrial Pkwy. N.
