York Region Transit (YRT) is making schedule and route changes to meet changing customer demand taking effect Sunday, Nov. 3.
- Viva blue operating between Bernard Terminal and Finch GO Bus Terminal will be renamed Viva blue B
- Viva pink will be discontinued to reduce duplication of service along Yonge Street and Highway 7; travellers can continue to use Viva blue/blue B on Yonge Street and Viva purple/purple A on Highway 7; resources saved from discontinuing Viva pink will be used to improve frequency on Viva blue/blue B and purple/purple A to match ridership demand
- Route 320 — Jane Express and Route 360 — Vaughan Mills/Wonderland will adjust to meet ridership demand for holiday season shopping and Winterfest
Frequency and service improvements will be made on several routes. Learn which routes and how to plan ahead at yrt.ca/servicechanges.
Veterans ride free on Remembrance Day
On Monday, Nov. 11, York Region offers free transit service to veterans and immediate family of a deceased veteran. Veterans and one companion can ride free by identifying themselves to YRT and On-Request operators by showing a uniform, medal, beret or blazer. The immediate family of a deceased veteran may also ride free by carrying something that identifies their relationship, such as an identification card or service papers.
To honour the sacrifices made for all Canadians, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, all YRT and On-Request services will observe two minutes of silence by pulling over and stopping vehicles (safety permitting).
New PRESTO E-Tickets app
In late November, YRT will be transitioning all e-ticket purchases to PRESTO E-Tickets. The YRT Pay app will be discontinued and travellers will no longer be able to purchase e-tickets in the transit app. All unused tickets will automatically be transferred to PRESTO E-Tickets. Regular PRESTO card use is unaffected by the change. Travellers can learn more at yrt.ca/PRESTOeTickets.
Save 50 per cent on your fare with the Transit Assistance Program (TAP)
The York Region Transit Assistance Program (TAP) helps make transit more affordable for eligible residents. Participants will receive a 50 per cent discount on regular adult single-ride PRESTO fare. This includes a two-hour transfer window. For eligibility and what you need to apply, visit yrt.ca/TAP.
