Agnes passed away quietly in her home at Sunrise Senior Living in Aurora.  She is predeceased by her parents and only sister in England, her youngest son, Jackson and her husband, John.  She is survived by her son Steven (Courtenay), daughter Deborah (Douglas), grandchildren Adam (Lori), Boyd (Amanda), James (Jii), and Elisabeth (Gabe), and three great-grandchildren, Paityn, Talon and Brantley.

Agnes was born on a farm near a tiny town in Ayrshire, Scotland, but her family moved to Chesham, England when she was just a young lass.  Her father took a job on a poultry farm and her mother was an elementary school teacher.  Agnes followed in those same footsteps and went on to teach until she had a family of her own.

When Agnes was only 26, she crossed the Atlantic with her 2½ year old son and 4 month old daughter to join her husband John, who had emigrated 6 months earlier.  After a few years moving around the Canadian Western provinces they finally landed in Vancouver, where their second son was born.  A few years later, they relocated again and finally put down solid roots in Ontario, where they built their lives and stayed for their duration.

She was a wonderful homemaker while her kids were growing up and she was happiest when all of her family and friends were together at their family cottage on Lake of Bays, where they spent most of their summers and many winter weekends.  In her later years Agnes also loved spending family time in Florida, especially with her grand kids, walking on the beach, collecting shells, and watching the sun set over the .

For decades Agnes was a very dedicated volunteer for Goodwill Canada; she was also very involved and dedicated to her church, St John’s Anglican in North York, especially in her later years.

Agnes enjoyed a full life in good health until Alzheimer’s took over.  She lived her last 8 years in Sunrise of Aurora, where she became dearly loved and cherished by all of her attending caregivers over the years.  Even in her final days she remained both cheeky and happy with those around her.  She was a lovely lady who retained her dignity and grace until the very end.

A visitation for Agnes will be held Friday, June 7, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora, ON L4G6W8, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM.

If so desired, donations in Agnes’ memory may be made to the Alzheimer Association of Ontario.
