A man accused of second-degree murder of a Newmarket resident will have his case remanded until next week.
Philip Rulli, 56, of no fixed address made an appearance at Newmarket Superior Court via video to answer to the charges on Sept 6. He wore plain clothes, and appeared uneasy while in a holding cell.
“This is a waste of time because I confessed already to my bail officer,” said Rulli.
Legal aid lawyer Roy Respicio is assisting Rulli with finding a lawyer to represent him on the charges. The case was remanded to Sept. 13 for an update on the status of counsel for Rulli and for him to receive medical attention.
Rulli was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Dennis Sweet, 66, in an apartment on Timothy Street at Prospect Street.
York Regional Police were called to the seniors housing building at Timothy Street and Prospect Street on Sept. 2 at about 8:50 a.m. where they found Sweet, who had been stabbed. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accused and the victim were known to each other, police say.
