Woman charged with dangerous driving in Newmarket collision

Police said Central York Fire Services extracted one person from a vehicle after a collision with another vehicle at Mulock Drive and Sandford Street on June 21.

A 27-year-old woman has been charged with a criminal offence after a collision with another vehicle in Newmarket that sent three people to a hospital on Friday.

The two-vehicle collision occurred when a vehicle went through the intersection against a red light at about 10 a.m. June 21 at Mulock Drive and Sandford Street on June 21, York Regional Police said. 

The driver has been charged with dangerous operation causing bodily harm.

A 39-year-old man was driving the other vehicle.

One person was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, however is in stable condition now, police said. Two people were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Central York Fire Services extracted one person who was trapped in a vehicle.

The scene of the collision was shut down for most of the day for the investigation, with traffic blocked from entering the area on Mulock, Yonge Street, Bayview Avenue, and both northbound and southbound lanes of Sandford.

Further information was not provided.

"As we are cautious to not influence the ongoing investigation or any witnesses we have not yet spoken to, we are not going to release any further details," said Sgt. Lisa Moskaluk.
