The Aurora Mayor’s Charity Golf Classic is donating a total of $103,000 to be shared by 21 local groups and charities this year.

The local groups were granted the donations by the mayor's charity golf committee, with four local organizations receiving $5,000 each during the committee's most recent meeting in July.

“I’m incredibly proud that the Aurora Mayor’s Charity Golf Classic continues to provide funding to so many wonderful local organizations who support some of our most vulnerable residents,” Mrakas said in a statement.

Recent recipients of donations include the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) York Region and South Simcoe, the Aurora Cares Community Action Team, York Region Children's Fund and the Empowering Jack Fundraiser each received donations.

Money for the CMHA will go toward the Mobile Youth Walk-in Clinic, a travelling clinic that provides youth aged 12 to 25 free, confidential and safe spaces to talk to a medical or mental health professional.

The Aurora Cares Community Action Team is a pandemic-era task force that was recently restarted, and focuses on helping vulnerable people connect with support services.

The money received by the York Region Children's Fund will go to the 2024 Stay in School Awards program it runs for both post-secondary and high school students.

The money donated to the Empowering Jack Fundraiser will go toward the Help Bring Juno Home Campaign.

“The Golf Classic really does embody the selfless spirit of our community, and I want to thank all the businesses who have participated over the years – their support and generosity has helped us raise well over $1 million since the Golf Classic was founded, money that has helped community groups continue the important work that they do,” Mrakas added in a statement.
