Neighbourhood Network is holding a community food drive throughout September, including donation events at grocery stores in Aurora, East Gwillimbury and Georgina this Saturday.

You can donate Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at :

  • Aurora: Metro, 1 Henderson Dr. (all volunteer positions full)
  • East Gwillimbury: Foodland, 19263 Hwy. 48, Mount Albert
  • Georgina: Zehrs, 24018 Woodbine Ave. Rr 2, Keswick

Volunteers are needed and can sign up by email.

“The latest reports from Feed Ontario tell us that food bank users in Ontario have increased 25 per cent in the last year alone,” said Erin Cerenzia, manager of community relations, in a news release. “We’re encouraging residents to give back in the way that works best for them – whether through volunteering, donating food, or contributing directly to a food bank, everyone can make a difference.”

Other ways to donate this month include a community challenge in which high school students can earn a community involvement hour making a donation. Shop and then donate directly to your local food bank or drop the donation off at one of the collection sites on Saturday. Follow the steps on Neighbourhood Network's website to verify your donation and receive your hour.

Or, make a direct donation. A list of partnered food banks and links to their most urgently needed items are posted on the website. Donations (monetary or in-kind) can be made using the instructions here.

"Join us in making a difference and supporting our local food banks between the holiday seasons. Your contributions will help feed those in our community who need it most. Let's come together and make this year the most successful yet," Cerenzia added.
