A prominent executive in the non-profit sector is moving on to join officials at Queen’s Park in the fall.

United Way Greater Toronto announced president and chief executive officer Daniele Zanotti would leave the organization to serve as Ontario’s deputy minister of the Ministry of Children, Community, and Social Services effective Nov. 4. The organization serves clients in York Region, Toronto and Peel Region.

"As I step into this new role, I carry with me the lessons learned and optimism that change is possible when we keep people at the centre of practical policy," said Daniele Zanotti to AuroraToday. "Serving with United Way has been one of the greatest honours of my life, and I leave with full confidence in the incredible team that will continue this vital work.”

Zanotti has led the organization since 2016, following his tenure as CEO of United Way York Region beginning in 2007. He spearheaded the merger of York, Peel, and Toronto United Ways to form a powerhouse organization.

"I’m filled with pride for what we’ve accomplished together, working with community, agencies, business, labour and government to change lives and build a region that is better for all," said Zanotti.

The board of trustees will initiate a search for Zanotti’s successor in the coming weeks. Lisa Gonsalves, chair of the board of trustees, said Zanotti's appointment is not only a significant personal achievement but also a reflection of the impact he has made during his time with United Way Greater Toronto.

“His leadership has guided us through some of the most challenging times, and his commitment to equity and community building has left a lasting legacy,” said Gonsalves in a news release. “While we will miss his presence here, we are incredibly proud of his continued service to our community in this new role.”
