The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Newmarket is hosting an interfaith symposium in Aurora on Nov. 3, bringing together residents of different religions to share their faith backgrounds.
The event's objective is to focus on a pathway to peace and promote understanding in the community. It will occur at the Royal Canadian Legion, 105 Industrial Pkwy North from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
“The idea is to bring everyone together so we can talk about peace and remove any misconceptions people may have,” said Ahmed Siddiqui, public relations representative, Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at.
Guests are encouraged to confirm their attendance by registering online by Oct. 20. Participants can expect to hear thought-provoking keynote speeches from leaders of Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, and Islam. Siddiqui said he hopes people understand they have much more in common with others of different faiths. The event will be moderated to comply with etiquette.
“It’s more about giving the idea of how we can work toward peace,” said Siddiqui. “It’s not a debate. We’re not pushing beliefs in any way. It’s to take away a positive message from it rather than getting into an argument, which is not the motive of this symposium.”
The symposium celebrates our diverse faith communities, aiming to foster dialogue, encourage mutual understanding, and promote respect. Through engaging discussions, presentations, and interactive sessions, organizers hope to explore shared values, address misconceptions, and celebrate our rich diversity.
There will be opportunities for networking and collaboration among participants.
