Rose of Sharon Services for Young Mothers, a York Region charity dedicated to supporting young mothers and babies, is moving to a bigger and brighter facility in Newmarket this summer.

The relocation, on Aug. 1 to 1145 Nicholson Rd., unit 2, "marks a significant step forward in our commitment to offering supportive services for pregnant and parenting youth and their children," a news release said.

More free programs and services will be offered as a result of the additional space, including on-site high school to prenatal care and parenting development education, child development workshops, personalized counselling, and access to essential items like groceries, baby food, and diapers.

“This is truly a dream come true. Our move to a larger facility will give us space to support the growing community needs of young mothers and their children,” said Susan LaRosa, board chair at Rose of Sharon. “This expansion reflects our unwavering commitment to empower and uplift young women to embrace their strengths and raise healthy children while working toward their personal goals.”

Deanne Kukulewich, executive director, emphasized the challenges facing pregnant and parenting young mothers.

“The demand for our free programs and services has never been higher, especially for counselling resources and basic essentials like food, baby necessities and clothing. Thanks to the support of our donors, community partners and the dedication of our volunteers, we can offer these resources free of charge without a waiting list. It sends a clear message to new moms that they are not alone.”
