York Region is getting recognition as a top location to invest in Canada by a publication covering economic development.

Site Selection Magazine gave the region’s economic development department one of its annual competitive awards, recognizing 20 locations across the country with the top levels of investment.

York Region chair and CEO Wayne Emmerson said York Region is proud to get on the list for the second consecutive year.

“Through York Region’s commitment to economic vitality in our corporate strategic plan and through the activities identified in the economic development action plan, together with our nine local cities and towns, we continue to create thriving conditions for existing and new businesses to grow and succeed,” Emmerson said.

The award is based on criteria like corporate investment, job creation and positive impact. Site Selection Magazine gave the recognition to York Link, citing recent projects and investments like Aritizia investing $61 million and providing 651 jobs to Vaughan. The magazine also mentioned the investment of Piramal Pharma Solutions in Aurora.

“York Region is a top destination for business, innovation and talent and investing in business supports and services is integral to ensuring businesses and employees in York Region contribute to a strong economy,” the region said in a news release.

The region said it has many business advantages, including a central location, the third-largest manufacturing sector in Ontario, billions in transit and infrastructure investments and a leading tech hub with more than 4,900 technology companies.
