UPDATE, NOV. 4: A driver has been charged with careless driving following an incident that saw a York Regional Police cruiser crash into a bus stop Saturday evening.
The police officer was driving northbound on Yonge Street, approaching Henderson Avenue, when another driver “suddenly changed lanes and collided with the cruiser,” according to an email statement from police spokesperson Const. Lisa Moskaluk.
This caused the police cruiser to strike a pole and collide with the York Regional Transit bus stop on the northbound side of Yonge, outside the McDonald’s Restaurant on Allaura Boulevard.
There were no serious injuries, according to Moskaluk.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 66-year-old man from Aurora, was charged with careless driving, she added.

A York Regional Police cruiser has crashed into an Aurora bus stop located near Yonge Street and Henderson Drive.
The incident happened at around 7:05 p.m. on Saturday and involved more than one vehicle.
The police cruiser crashed into the York Regional Transit bus stop on the northbound side of Yonge Street, outside the McDonald’s on Allaura Boulevard.
There were no injuries reported in the collision, according to police duty officer Insp. Carl Mattinen.
Photos from the scene show a sizable emergency services response with Central York Fire Services and York Region Paramedic Services on the scene.
However, Mattinen said he did not have more details about the circumstances leading up to the incident.
