Carjacker assaults victim in Markham parking lot before fleeing

A carjacker fled in a Mercedes sedan after assaulting a person in a plaza parking lot in Markham Thursday night.

On Sept. 5 at about 9:45 p.m., police responded to a carjacking at the plaza at Highway 7 East and Rodick Road, where the victim had been walking to their vehicle when they were assaulted by a man who fled in the grey 2022 Mercedes AMD GT sedan, according to a York Regional Police news release.

The suspect is described as male, skinny, wearing all black clothing.

Investigators are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. Officers would also like to speak with anyone who may have video surveillance or dashcam footage in the area at the time of the incident.
