Suspects, one with hammer, invade Markham home to steal SUV

Three suspects, one armed with a hammer, forced their way into a house in Markham to demand the keys to a Mercedes-Benz SUV before fleeing with it early yesterday morning.

Security video shows the suspects driving past the house near The Bridle Walk and Castlemore Avenue several times before the home invasion on Sept. 5 at about 3 a.m. Three suspects the home, while a fourth suspect remained in the suspects' vehicle, York Regional Police said in a news release.

The suspects obtained keys to the victim’s vehicle, a white 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS sport utility vehicle, with Ontario licence plate DDPW030. Two of the suspects fled in the victim’s vehicle, while the remaining two suspects fled in the suspect vehicle, described as a dark-coloured four-door sedan.

The four adults and two children in the home at the time of the incident were not injured, police said.

Investigators believe this is a targeted incident and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. Officers would like to speak with anyone who may have video surveillance or dashcam footage in the area at the time of the incident.
