Woman charged with murder in stabbing death of Newmarket man

The accused and the victim were known to each other, police say

A 30-year-old Toronto woman has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the stabbing death of a 36-year-old man from Newmarket at a Main Street apartment building.

York Regional Police were called to a building on Main Street at Millard Avenue on July 14 at about 10:30 p.m., where they found a man who had been stabbed. The man was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police have identified the victim as 36-year-old Blake Bibby.

Mckenzie Gill of Toronto has been arrested and charged, police said.

The accused and the victim were known to each other.

A police presence remains visible at the site today.

“As with any ongoing investigation, police will remain to maintain scene continuity,” said Const. Kevin Nebrija.

The building is located between Christian Baptist Church and Roadhouse and Rose Funeral Home.

Investigators are appealing to any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police, and to anyone who may have security video from the area, to come forward.
