'Serious' Crash sends two to hospital with life-threatening injuries

Members of the Aurora detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a serious, two vehicle collision, which sent three people to hospital, two with life-threatening injuries.

On Sept. 20, shortly after 11:30 p.m., emergency services were dispatched to a collision involving two cars on Highway 48 at Major Mackenzie Drive, Markham. Officers arrived to find two vehicles in the ditch. The driver and passenger from one vehicle were both transported to trauma centres by ambulance with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was transported to hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.

Members of the OPP Highway Safety Division (HSD) Traffic Support Unit (TSU) attended the scene and assisted with the investigation. All lanes of Highway 48 were closed, north of Major Mackenzie Drive, until 6:15 a.m. for investigation.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials are asking for witnesses who may have seen the collision, or may have dashcam footage, to call the OPP Aurora Detachment at 1-888-310-1122 and refer to incident number E241265742.
