Woman, 23, dies after being thrown from motorcycle in Markham

A 23-year-old woman was killed when she was thrown from a motorcycle that had lost control in Markham last night.

The motorcycle was travelling eastbound on 14th Avenue near Horstman Street at about 9:45 p.m. on June 17, when, for unknown reasons, it lost control, York Regional Police said in a news release.

Both the rider and passenger were thrown from the motorcycle. The 23-year-old male rider sustained serious injuries and was transported to a trauma centre.

The 23-year-old female passenger sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased upon arrival at a trauma centre.

Investigators are appealing to any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police, and to anyone who may have dashcam footage or video surveillance of the area around the time of the collision, to please come forward.
